cuppa with a carer

thinking about fostering but unsure how to begin?

Why not enjoy a brew and a friendly conversation with one of our experienced foster carers?

Cuppa with a carer offers an informal, welcoming way to learn more about fostering with Foster Wales Conwy. Whether fostering is a new idea, or something you have been considering for a long time, this is your opportunity to ask questions, gain insight from real-life experiences, and hear first hand what fostering involves from someone who understands the journey.

There are no commitments and no pressure, just a relaxed chat in a café of your choice, where you can enjoy a drink whilst finding out more about fostering.

what can I talk about?

Whatever you’d like to know.

People often come along with questions such as:

  • What day-to-day life as a foster carer is really like
  • How fostering can fit alongside work, family, and other commitments
  • The support, guidance, and training available to foster carers
  • What to expect during the assessment and approval process
  • The benefits and challenges that come with fostering
  • The different types of fostering available

There’s no such thing as a silly question. Our foster carers were once in your position and understand what it’s like to be exploring fostering for the first time. They’re happy to share their experiences, answer your questions, and offer honest, real-life insight into the fostering journey.

every journey starts somewhere

meet Laura

Laura and her partner had been considering fostering for several years when they came across our information stand at their local leisure centre. Inspired to find out more, they submitted an enquiry through our website.

Following their enquiry, Jess, our Recruitment Officer, arranged a home visit to discuss fostering in more detail. This gave Laura and her partner the opportunity to learn more about the process and share the type of fostering they were interested in. They felt particularly drawn to providing short-term care for babies and children under the age of five.

As part of their journey, Laura and her partner were invited to attend a Cuppa with a Carer, where they met Dawn, one of our experienced foster carers. Dawn shared her own experiences of fostering babies and young children in Conwy, helping Laura and her partner gain a realistic understanding of fostering and how it could fit into family life.

Feeling informed and supported, Laura and her family decided to take the next step and submit their application to foster.

Today, Laura and her partner are approved foster carers with Foster Wales Conwy, making a positive difference to the lives of local children and young people.

“I found the cuppa with a carer really helpful. It was reassuring to speak to someone with first-hand experience who understood the process and was happy to answer my questions honestly. Dawn made me feel more informed and at ease. I would recommend a cuppa to those who are interested in fostering.”
